World-Wide Volkswagen v. Woodson
However foreseeable, a party's single and unilateral contact with a forum state, which was not initiated or intended by that party, does not constitute sufficient contact to subject the party to the personal jurisdiction of the forum state's courts. To be clear, World-Wide Volkswagen did not do business in Oklahoma, nor did it solicit or seek business there. There was no showing that World-Wide Volkswagen sold vehicles to Oklahoma residents. World-Wide Volkswagen did not purposefully avail itself of the privilege of doing business in Oklahoma. While it may have been foreseeable that a car sold by World-Wide Volkswagen would be driven into Oklahoma, foreseeability alone is not sufficient to confer jurisdiction. The unilateral actions of the Robinsons did not constitute the minimum contacts necessary to confer personal jurisdiction.
